About this Site:
The aim of this website is to act as an aid to someone who has little or no experience of carving and it was designed as a resource for students and teachers of second level education. The main benefit of the site are the video tutorials taking a beginner carver through the basics principles of using the tools and the various styles of carving.

Creating your own wood spirits
Spirit Creation:

Decide on a suitable size on which to draw your pattern depending on the piece of wood being carved. Alternatively just use the downloadable wood spirit template.

Begin with a piece of paper, the best way to generate ideas is to experiment with thumbnail sketches.

Sketch out a number of faces within the rough template

Depending on the theme of the carving sketch out some sample ideas.

Having selected an approapriate design the next stage is to use it in conjuction with the wood your intend on carving.

Key features such as eye positions, nose length and facial hair style can all be transfered from the template.
