About this Site:
The aim of this website is to act as an aid to someone who has little or no experience of carving and it was designed as a resource for students and teachers of second level education. The main benefit of the site are the video tutorials taking a beginner carver through the basics principles of using the tools and the various styles of carving.
Through the explanations and demonstrations of key principles students will be equipped with the knowledge and understanding to design and make there own creations...
What Is the Purpose of this Website?
This Project is an online teaching resource to aid Materials Technology (Wood) students. This website explores the various styles of wood carving.

Student will be able to select their desired project knowing they will have an online resource to guide them even if the majority of the class are not after selecting a craft based project.

Students will develop hand skills which can be applied to many areas of MTW.

Students will gain a sense of autonomy as they gain knowledge of the principles to create their own pieces.

Students will be fully introduced to the tools and sharpening methods through online tutorials.

Design their own projects, having gained a grounding in the creative craft of wood carving.
What are the benefits of this style of project?

A single wood carving knife and possibly a v-tool is all that is needed to complete some of the projects.

There is not much cost involved, because there is a limited amount of wood being used.

Very little clean-up is needed as compared to larger carving projects.

Only requires a small area for the carving process.

They can be completed rather quickly and many times in one short sitting.

Carving develops visualisation and spacial awareness skills.

Patterns and designs can easily be sketched out and transformed into wooden artifacts.
