Creating your Own Chip Carving Patterns
Pattern Creation:
-
Decide on a suitable size on which to draw your pattern depending on the piece of wood being carved.
-
Begin with a piece of paper, the best way to generate ideas is to experiment with thumbnail sketches.
-
Sketch out a number of shapes similar to the outline of the shape you'll be carving. Dont measure just estimate.
-
To create geometric design divide the shape up into sections. Experiment with various styles incorperating the 2 and 3 corner chips.
-
Having selected an approapriate design print or draw the full sized outline on a piece of paper.
-
Drawing equipment required may include: Pencil, Ruler/Straight Edge, Circles Template, French Curves, Compass
-
Include large and small chips in your deisgn. This is much more visually appealing. Leave plenty uncarved surfaces; this draws the attention to the carved area.
